Obviously Brent had his demons, but to say he was lying to his daughter when this song was written or when he sang it to her is speculation at best. I believe he probably meant it and believed it. Was he an ideal father, far from it, but then none of us are perfect. As I'm sure many here know, addiction is a cruel and relentless foe and not everyone is strong enough to overcome it.

In all fairness I would expect to see you direct the same anger at Jerry (not at the rest of the band members because they "failed to take action", because, ultimately, it was his choice) on the anniversary of his death. He was as much an absentee, addicted and thoughtless father as Brent was. His addiction was as much, in your words, the coward's way out, in that he chose to escape his demons and issues by commiting suicide in his own slow way. I'm sure he loved his daughters and assume he told them so, and if he didn't shame on him. For years we all knew that he would, in all probablility, not survive his addictions, and I never heard any deadheads propose a boycott, or anything like that, until Jerry got his act together. We were all content to bitch about it, and keep "feeding the beast".

Both of you have made points which give me pause .

I'll start w/ PG , paragraph #2 , and then blend things in .
You are completely right . I do judge the situations JG/BM differently , re: their children . I do not have a bottom line answer , but here are some things in the stew .
BM's direct exploitation of his daughter in song and performance , and taking AR's account in hand , that may have been the best moments w/ her father . Hard memories that I would not want .
I do give all artists slack . The length is determined by how much the Muse loves them , in my opinion . ( very objective , of course )
Death by suicide is different , then the slow death of addiction . I don't know why . Thinking
btw - How could anyone accuse another of not loving their child ? How would you know ? One's actions however , speak loudly .
Thanks for getting the noggin chugging .

I neglected this in prior posts ,

Brent Mydland , RIP

I am a little confused . In 7 posts since you joined the forum on July 4 , all have been one liners , with all but one filled with sarcasm .
I do not know what GD you like . Years ? Shows ? I do not know your take on anything to do with the entire scene around GD . I just have one liners that tell me nothing . Who are you ? Tell us .
